my work this year has had specific range within pre-existing beloved themes. i enjoyed throwing flatware, painting its precise surface decoration and ignoring glazing. these pieces satisfy me with the contrast of unglazed, rough black clay bodies and glossy clear glass over porcelain. they are all food-safe.
i used historical cross-stitch patterns, translating symbols into dot-code and back into image. i was inspired by my family history; paternally scribing yiddish and maternally modelling from rhenish pottery. i put myself and my loved ones onto pieces, playing with stretched shadows and silhouettes. i returned to textiles with patterns from rugs, weavings, and quilts.
